Halloween gives me the creeps.

Forget the zombies and monsters. It's all the crafty people lurking in the shadows that scare me.

Don't get me wrong, I love the creativity. That veggie tray in the shape of a skeleton looks delicious, the baby in the popcorn costume is adorable, and the eyeballs hanging in the tree, clever.

But, as the guy who remembers to buy the candy -- maybe -- on the way home from work Halloween night (note to self: don't forget to buy candy), I'm frightened by the effort involved.

I'd like to have the house with the PVC spider in the yard and the blood-stained runner leading to the front door, but I'm still trying to figure out how to make my kids' costumes for Halloween last year.

Still, seeing all of the great ideas for yard decorations, party favors, treats and costumes has motivated me to start planning early for next year -- just as soon as the Christmas decorations come down in June.
