Blinn College recognized eight graduates of its surgical technology program on Aug. 5 with a pinning ceremony at the Bryan campus.
The 2019 graduating class members were C.W. Dein, Elizabeth Katie Everitt, Hayley Fernandez, Colton Kemp, Sara Marshall, Jason Mendez, Lauren Reistino and Kayla Robinson.
The two-year program encompasses lecture and laboratory classes as well as clinical observation and operating room experience.
Surgical technologists assist surgeons, anesthesiologists and registered nurses in the operating room. They ensure a safe environment, that equipment functions properly and that procedures are conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
In addition to their classes, Blinn surgical technology students undergo hands-on clinical experience at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center-College Station, CHI St. Joseph Hospital and CHI St. Joseph Health — College Station Hospital (formerly College Station Medical Center) and must complete more than 200 surgical cases across a variety of surgical specialties prior to graduation.
