Leeann Matejka of Bryan recently participated in an educational camp on ranching and land stewardship at the Warren Ranch near Coleman.

The Ranch Brigade camp, now in its seventh year, accepts youth ages 13 to 17 for 25 spots in the program. Participants learn aspects of operating a modern Texas ranch, including cattle health and welfare, rangeland ecology and stewardship, cattle marketing, brush control and more. The five-day program concluded July 26.

Matejka, a sophomore at St. Joseph Catholic School in Bryan, said she hopes the experience will help prepare her to one day operate a ranch of her own.
