A&M Consolidated has hired Peter Martin as its girls track and field and cross country coach.
Martin, a former walk-on wide receiver at Texas A&M, was the head boys track and field and cross country coach at Lake Travis the last four seasons. The Lake Travis boys cross country team finished 14th at the 2017 Class 6A state meet, the program’s first state appearance since 1985 when Lake Travis was in 2A.
Martin received a bachelor’s degree in sport management from A&M in 2006. He received his master’s degree from Louisiana-Monroe, where he served as a graduate assistant for two seasons. He also was the Warhawks director of football operations for 16 months starting in January 2008. He coached in Grand Prairie and Mesquite prior to Lake Travis.
Martin, who is from Giddings, was a walk-on for the A&M football team from 2003-05. Martin’s wife, the former Melissa Johnson, also graduated from A&M.
Martin replaces Sharolyn Wilson, who left the Lady Tigers after four seasons to be closer to family in Dallas.
