ACADIANA, La. — The Brazos Valley Bombers lost to the Acadiana Cane Cutters 4-1 in the opener of a two-game series Wednesday.

Acadiana took the lead in the first inning on back-to-back doubles from Fisher Norris and Tremaine Spears, and Champ Artigues scored on a Bombers’ error in the fifth to make it 2-0.

Brazos Valley’s Bryant Shellenbarger reached on an error in the sixth and scored on Kyle Bergeron’s single to cut the lead to 2-1, but the Cane Cutters added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth.

Bergeron led the Bombers, going 3 for 4, and Brenham graduate Sam McElreath went 2 for 4 with a double.

The Bombers will wrap the series at 7:05 p.m. Thursday before hosting a two-game set against the Baton Rouge Rougarou, which begins at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
