VICTORIA – The Brazos Valley Bombers built an early lead and then held on for a 5-3 victory over the Victoria Generals, sweeping the two-game series of the Texas Collegiate League’s best teams.

The Bombers (13-3) got an RBI triple from Bryant Shellenbarger and key production from Jordan Yeatts, Chase Kemp and Ridge Rogers to build a 4-0 lead. Victoria (10-5) got a two-run homer from Ryan Flores in the sixth, but Tyler Smith’s RBI single in the eighth pushed the Bombers’ lead to 5-3.

Shellenbarger and Kemp each had two hits.

The two will play a pair of 7:05 p.m. games at Travis Field on Tuesday and Wednesday.
