The league-leading Brazos Valley Bombers rolled to a 9-5 victory over the Victoria Generals on Thursday night in the opener of a two-game series matching the Texas Collegiate League’s best teams.

The Bombers (23-8, 2-3), who had dropped three of four games to open the second half, broke the game open with a four-run seventh for a 7-2 lead. Bryant Shellenbarger had a two-run triple as the Bombers took advantage of two walks. Cam Haller added a two-run homer in the ninth as the Bombers kicked off a six-game road trip. Shellenbarger tied the game at 2 in the sixth with an RBI single, and Chase Kemp followed with an RBI single.

Victoria (21-11, 3-2) took a 2-0 lead against Bombers starting pitcher Henry Bird by scoring an unearned run in the first and getting a home run by Tanner Roach in the second.

The two teams will play again at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Riverside Stadium.
