GEORGETOWN — A&M Consolidated and Bryan each had a pair of lifters earn berths to the state tournament Saturday at the Region 2 Division I meet at Georgetown East View.

Bryan’s Carlos Lucia won the 165-pound division while teammate Michael Cadena won 275. Both were named outstanding lifters of the meet, Lucia for the lightweight classes and Cadena for the heavyweights.

Consol’s Reggie Davis won 148 with teammate David Taylor taking second as both posted meet-best lifts. Davis set a regional record in the bench press with a lift of 325 pounds, also good for the best bench press of the meet in the lightweight classes. Taylor set the best deadlift of the meet in the lightweight classes at 530.

Davis, Taylor, Lucia and Cadena earned berths to the state tournament set for March 22 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.

Consol’s Coby Foster placed fifth at 242, and freshman Jonathan Sylvester took fifth at 165.

Bryan’s Artie Reyes placed 10th at 242.

Bryan finished fifth and Consol sixth in the team standings.
