Blinn defenders Josh Ellison, center, and Jaquay Martin, left, converge on a Texas A&T player during the Buccaneers' 62-7 win Saturday at Cub Stadium.

BRENHAM — Former A&M Consolidated defensive lineman Josh Ellison had a stellar collegiate debut, and 11th-ranked Blinn routed Texas A&T 62-7 in its season opener Saturday at Cub Stadium.

Ellison recovered a fumble for a 30-yard touchdown return with 8:18 left in the third quarter, giving the Buccaneers a 49-0 lead. Ellison, a one-time Texas A&M pledge, plans to transfer to A&M after a season with Blinn.

Two more former Brazos Valley football players got into the scoring action for Blinn as sophomore Eric Peterson, a College Station alumnus, and freshman Kadrian Hammond, from Cameron, each caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Brock Landis. Hammond’s 22-yard TD catch put the Bucs up 21-0 early in the second quarter, and Peterson made it 35-0 with 4:38 left until halftime, scoring from 43 yards out.

Landis accounted for seven touchdowns. Blinn (1-0) opens conference play against Tyler Junior College at 7 p.m. Saturday at Cub Stadium.
