Iola head boys basketball coach Kent Benedict has been named the school’s boys athletic director.

Benedict replaces Dwayne Ross, who resigned on July 4. Ross also was Iola’s head football coach.

Once Iola resumed operations last week, Iola superintendent Scott Martindale and high school principal Brian Fowler asked Benedict about taking the position, Benedict said.

Benedict took over the Bulldogs’ boys basketball program in the 2014-15 season. He led Iola to the playoffs for the first time in approximately 20 years in 2017 and followed it up with playoff appearances in each of the last two seasons.
