IOLA — Iola’s Blake Driver threw touchdown passes to Colton Boullion and Adam Crenshaw and ran for a TD in the first half, and the Bulldogs held off Normangee in a tense second half for a 32-29 victory Friday in nondistrict play.

Iola (2-0) led 20-7 at halftime, but Normangee (0-2) pushed the Bulldogs throughout the final two quarters.

Normangee’s Luke Yellott scored on 16-yard run and added the two-point conversion run to cut Iola’s lead to 20-15 early in the third quarter. Driver scored on a 3-yard run later in the period, but Normangee again stayed in the game with Yellott’s 44-yard TD pass to Garrette Douga and another Yellott two-point run, cutting Iola’s lead to 26-23.

The Panthers then took a 29-26 lead when Yellott scored on a 30-yard run early in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs rallied with Colton Boullion’s 6-yard TD run pushing them ahead for good.

Iola outgained Normangee 374 yards to 262 in total offense, but the Panthers grinded out 211 yards on 52 carries. Yellott led with 190 yards on 41 carries.

Driver led Iola’s offense, completing 11 of 17 passes for 204 yards and rushing for 85 yards on 17 carries.

Iola will play at Anderson-Shiro next week, while Normangee will host Lovelady.
