LEXINGTON — JaKobe Cooper, Sheldon Springer and Jordan Kerr fueled a big night for Lexington’s offense as the Eagles flew past Florence 65-7 to open District 8-3A Division II play Friday.

Cooper rushed for 184 yards and four touchdowns on 11 carries, while Springer completed 9 of 11 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns. Kerr caught two passes for 112 yards and two TDs, and Jamarie White caught three passes for 58 yards and another TD.

Lexington (5-1, 1-0) finished with 473 yards of total offense and held Florence (2-5, 0-1) to 105 yards, including none threw the air as the Buffaloes didn’t complete a pass in four attempts with two interceptions.

Lexington’s Caleb Meyer also returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown that gave the Eagles a 28-0 lead with 9:32 left in the second quarter — part of the Eagles’ 56 unanswered points to open the game.

Lexington will play at Clifton at 7:30 p.m. next Friday.
