Mumford boys basketball team holds off Snook in regional quarterfinals

Mumford senior James Morris Jr. was selected to play in the 18th Texas Roundup All-Star Game on March 18 in Maypearl.

The Texas Roundup selects the top 24 boys and girls basketball players from Class 1A-4A for the event. The girls game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and the boys game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Tickets for the games are $5.

Morris Jr. led Mumford with 17.3 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game and 2.4 steals per game. He was also second on the Mustangs with 2.5 assists per game.

Mumford lost 54-50 to Thorndale in the Class 2A Region IV championship Saturday in New Braunfels. It was the Mustangs’ longest playoff run since winning the Class 2A state title in 2014.
