Rockdale quarterback and defensive back David Franklin signed a National Letter of Intent to play football Mary Hardin-Baylor Thursday in a ceremony at Rockdale.

Mary Hardin-Baylor won the NCAA Division-III National Championship last season.

Franklin was a first-team All-District 10-3A Division I quarterback this past year, throwing for 1,674 yards in the regular season — fourth-most in the Brazos Valley — with 19 touchdowns. Franklin was a first-team all-district quarterback his junior season as well.

He also rushed for 895 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2016, helping lead Rockdale to the Class 3A Region III semifinals after having won the 10-3A Division I title.

On defense, Franklin was second in the Brazos Valley with five interceptions, two returned for touchdowns.

He becomes the second Rockdale football player to sign with a college, joining running back Davion Ford who signed with Houston on Feb. 1.
