Blinn’s LaKendric Hyson has signed with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. A three-time all-state tournament player at Mumford, he joins another former Mumford player, Aubrie King. The two played on the Mustangs’ 2014 Class 1A Division I state championship team.

Rudder guard Ke’Asia Williams, who led the Lady Rangers to their first UIL State Tournament has been selected to play in the large school Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-star game, set in conjunction with the TABC convention in San Antonio.

Bryan's A.J. Lawson and Quaylon Newton were named to the Class 5A Region III Texas Association of Basketball Coaches boys all-region team after leading the Vikings to the District 18-5A championship.

Mumford senior Lakendric Hyson has been invited to play in the 16th Texas Roundup All-Star Game set for March 21 in Maypearl. The Texas Roundup features the state’s top 24 boys and 24 girls basketball players from Class A through 4A.

Normangee beat Mumford 60-45 in the District 26-2A tie-breaker game. Normangee will be the district’s top seed in the UIL playoffs and Mumford will be the second seed.

Scott McDonald of the Navasota Examiner will be presented the Putt Powell Sports Writer of the Year Award during Wednesday’s hall of honor banquet.
