AUSTIN — The Rudder volleyball team went 1-2 at the Jason Landers Austin ISD tournament, claiming its first win of the season with a 25-17, 26-24 victory over Killeen.

WEBSTER — Rudder’s Kevin Kindt took second in the boys shot put at the Class 5A Region III track meet Friday at Challenger Stadium. Kindt threw 54 feet, 4.25 inches to qualify for the state meet set for May 10-11 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

BRENHAM — The Brenham baseball team beat Rudder 9-0 on Tuesday in District 19-5A play. Rudder (5-14-1, 3-6) will host Brenham (18-10, 3-6) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Rudder’s KJ Cunningham has been selected to play in the Houston Area Basketball Coaches Association’s All-Star Game on May 2 at Pearland Dawson. Cunningham, who has signed with Weber State, is the second Ranger to earn the honor following Antoine Henderson last year.

College Station freshman catcher and infielder Summer Scarmardo hit her first home run of the season, joining her older teammates in an offensive barrage as the 10th-ranked Lady Cougars beat Rudder 27-0 in five innings Friday in District 19-5A softball action at Lady Ranger Field.
