Bryan vs. Langham Creek football

Comebacks and district action highlight The Eagle's Week 5 football player of the week fan poll. Rudder's James Ayers and A&M Consolidated's Kerry Brooks helped lead their teams to comeback wins in their District 10-5A Division II opener.

Allen Academy junior Brent Tucker stood out on both sides of the ball in the Rams' final nondistrict tuneup. Burton's Demarcus Wilson and Anderson-Shiro's Zacarrius Haynes also had dominant showings in nondistrict action.

Nominees are selected by The Eagle sports staff based on coach submissions. Vote for your favorite player from now to 4 p.m. Monday.

James Ayers, Rudder, sr., RB

Ayers sparked Rudder's 56-50 comeback win against Montgomery, scoring three of his five touchdowns in the third quarter and finishing with 108 yards on 22 carries and two catches for 67 yards for 175 total yards.

He gained 89 yards on 20 carries and kept the Consol offense ahead of the chains and opened up the running game for Consol, which rolled up 24 second-half points in a 24-14 comeback win over the Hornets.
