Every year, on the 2nd Saturday of November, Welsy United Methodist Church, a charming, old-fashioned church, founded in 1955, holds Chili Day, where they provide, for the price of a ticket, their renowned chili, along with dessert and a drink, for dine-in or take-out. On that day, Wesley also holds a Silent Auction and Live Auction.
From the proceeds of this fundraiser, Welsey UMC dedicates more than a third to both internal church ministries and external community charities. Wesley's ministries include programs such as Prayer Blankets, given to the seriously injured, ill, or grieving, hand-sewn by the Sew-N-Sews. Wesley's sewing group and prayed over by the congregation; this ministry has touched people across Texas and the US. Wesley also has the Miracle of the Month, where the membership come together to support smaller local needs, such as supplying items and funding to local nursing homes and school food pantries within the Bryan School District.
Wesley UMC also seeks to extend God's work by funding external formal charities, both locally and nationally. In the past, this has included organizations such as Scotty's House, Stillcreek Ranch, The Church Food Pantry, Twin City Missions, CASA Voices for Children, Wounded Warriors, Ronald McDonald House and Children's Miracle Network.
