UPDATE: Authorities announced early Saturday that 24-year-old Luis Leonardo Solis of College Station has now been charged with murder in the death of Osiel Benitez-Herrera.

Solis is also charged with possession of a controlled substance. He is being held in the Brazos County Jail on $325,000 bond.

No arrests have been made in the slaying of Osiel Benitez-Herrera, who was found dead in his mobile home off Texas Avenue late Tuesday.

According to CSPD spokesman Lt. Craig Anderson, the investigation into the death Benitez-Herrera, 35, is ongoing. An autopsy will be required to confirm the manner of death, Anderson said. Benitez-Herrera was found by police after a 911 call from his roommate, who was the only other person who lives in the home. The two are not related, police said.

“The roommate said that he had just come home and heard a noise that sounded suspicious,” Anderson said. “The roommate then ran out of the trailer and called police.”

A neighbor was interviewed by police after officers found Benitez-Herrera’s body, as were other people in the mobile home park. Anderson noted that a woman who lives in a separate trailer was acquainted with the victim, though he was unsure of the nature of their relationship. The woman was able to put police in contact with Benitez-Herrera’s family, who all live out of state.

On Thursday, police could be seen searching the area surrounding the mobile home park using K-9 officers, but Anderson said he is unaware of anything significant that came as a result.

“Whenever we finish our initial search of a crime scene, we go [back] and make sure that we haven’t missed anything, so that’s what that was,” he explained.
