A 28-year-old Bryan man was sentenced Friday to nearly 40 years in prison after he was convicted last month of indecency with a child, officials said.
According to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office, District Judge Steve Smith sentenced Joshua Jarrod Figures on the charge, which stemmed from a 2017 incident involving a 10-year-old girl. Officials said the girl told an adult of the incident immediately after it happened in February 2017, and Figures was arrested two months later. Authorities said he wrote letters to the victim’s family requesting that the victim’s mother not cooperate with police, that she convince the child to lie and that she lie when taking the stand.
While awaiting trial in this case, Figures with charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child after a second girl spoke out about an incident in June 2018 that took place in 2013. Court records show he has been indicted on that charge.
Officials said Figures violated his probation from a burglary of a habitation conviction and ceased participating in probation programs. Probation on that charge was revoked in 2015.
