A Joshua man was arrested in Bryan late Tuesday after police said he stole more than 1,400 golf balls from Traditions Golf Club.

According to Bryan police, around 10:30 p.m., an officer patrolling Villa Maria Road noticed an older model pickup with no license plate. The truck was towing a trailer carrying a golf cart with a garbage can attached.

The officer stopped the truck along the 400 block of Harvey Mitchell Parkway. Authorities found that the driver,

43-year-old Shane Brent Mix, was wanted on warrants out of three Texas counties. A police report notes the truck traced back to a Fort Worth man who said the truck had gone missing years ago, but he never reported it stolen.

Inside the garbage can on the trailer, police said, there were 1,404 golf balls bearing the Traditions Golf Club logo. Mix admitted he had been collecting golf balls to sell as a side business, a report notes. The golf balls are valued at $2.50 each.

Mix was arrested on several warrants and is charged with theft valued at $3,510, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in a state jail and $10,000 in fines. He is being held in the Brazos County Jail on $49,000 bond.
