A Bryan woman was charged with abandoning a child over the weekend after a 4-year-old was found wandering alone.

According to the police report, Gabriella Hogan, 26, left the boy alone in an apartment Saturday afternoon.

The boy left the apartment and was found after crossing Briarcrest Drive, about a quarter-mile from the apartment, the report states. The child directed an officer back to the apartment, where the door was ajar and no one was home, according to the report.

The child was taken to the Bryan Police Department, where officers tried unsuccessfully to contact his mother, the report states.

The woman contacted the police department to report her son missing more than two hours after he had been found walking along the road, according to the report.

Hogan initially told police her son had left while she was asleep in the apartment, according to the police report, but eventually told officers the child’s father was supposed to be watching him.

Child Protective Services placed the boy with a family member, according to the report.

Abandoning a child with intent to return is a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in a state jail.

Hogan was released from the Brazos County Jail Sunday after posting $5,000 bail.

She was previously charged with injury to a child in connection to a July 2017 incident in which a 3-year-old girl received second-degree burns. She pleaded guilty in that case was sentenced to five years of probation last week, according to court records.
