A Burleson County jury has convicted a Caldwell man for continuous sexual abuse of a young child.

Aurelio Hernandez-Cruz was indicted in April 2018 after an investigation by the Caldwell Police Department, according to the Burleson County District Attorney's Office. The charge stemmed from an outcry of abuse made in Travis County when the victim was 11.

According to the District Attorney's Office, the victim said the abuse happened regularly for four years.

The girl, now 13, testified in the case.

"The jury could clearly see the toll years of abuse took on her, and the change in her from little girl to troubled teenager," said Assistant District Attorneys Lauren Haevischer, who prosecuted the case along with John Brennan.

A sentencing date has not been set.

Continuous sexual assault of a young child is a first-degree felony punishable by 25 to 99 years or life in prison, with no eligibility for release on parole.
