A College Station man remained in the Brazos County Jail late Tuesday on charges he was driving while intoxicated with a baby in the vehicle.

According to College Station police, around 4:45 p.m. Sunday, an officer responded to a home on Hawk Tree Drive. The officer spoke with a woman who was concerned that Thornell Benjamin Garner, 40, was driving drunk with a 14-month-old baby as a passenger.

As the officer spoke with the woman, he saw Garner drive into the home’s driveway, a report notes. Police said Garner smelled of alcohol, and he admitted to drink a bottle of vodka and a six-pack of beer. Garner was unable to complete certain portions of a field sobriety test and refused to give a blood sample, which was obtained after a warrant was issued, police said.

He is charged with driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in a state jail and $10,000 in fines. He is being held on $8,000 bond.
