A 24-year-old Hearne man was sentenced to 35 years in prison Thursday on four counts of aggravated robbery, officials said.
According to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office, Devante Jefferson received the sentence from a jury in the 2017 robberies of various convenience stores.
Officials said Jefferson and two juveniles robbed the Easy Shop at the intersection of F.M. 2818 and La Brisa Street in Bryan on June 2, 2017. One juvenile held two customers at gunpoint while Jefferson stole $350 from the register, a report notes. Two days later, Jefferson and two others entered the E-Z For You at the intersection of Finfeather Road and Villa Maria, where an armed Jefferson jumped the counter but could not gain access to the register. A clerk saw the masked men enter the store and hid in a refrigerated cooler. A second clerk, who was in the coolers stocking products, laid on the floor to hide.
Officials said Jefferson saw one of the clerks and attempted to break into the coolers to drag the clerk out at gunpoint, but he was unable to get the door open. He and the group fled with no money.
A detective testified that Jefferson participated in a robbery at the Valero on Harvey Road in College Station on May 31, 2017, where he and another man robbed the clerk at gunpoint.
