Bryan police are investigating after a Saturday afternoon shooting left a 23-year-old man dead.

According to police, first responders were called to a home in the 1700 block of W. Virginia Street, which is near the intersection of 28th Street and Palasota Drive, around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. There, they found Jose Armando Pina injured from a gunshot wound. Pina was rushed to CHI St. Joseph Hospital, where Bryan police spokeswoman Officer Kelley McKethan said he later died.

The slaying is the first in Bryan city limits this year, officials said. In College Station, 39-year-old Theia Flakes was found strangled in her apartment on Dominik Drive on Jan. 7.

Terry Dan Ratliff, who had a dating history with Flakes, was arrested in connection to her death.

Police are continuing to seek information about witnesses and the shooter. Anyone with information is asked to call Bryan police at 979-209-5300 or submit a tip to Crime Stoppers at 979-775-8477.
