A Rockdale man was sentenced to eight years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to having and promoting child pornography, officials said.

According to a press release from Milam County District Attorney Bill Torrey, 46-year-old David Wayne Carter pleaded guilty to two counts of possession and two counts of promotion of child pornography. He was sentenced to eight years in prison with no right to appeal and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Possession of child pornography is a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison; promotion of child pornography is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
