Authorities have charged a 24-year-old College Station man with murder in the death of his roommate.
Luis Leonardo Solis remained in the Brazos County Jail early Saturday with bail set at $325,000. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.
According to a police report, investigators identified inconsistencies in his statements when asked about the death of his roommate, Osiel Benitez-Herrera, who was found dead Tuesday in a mobile home off Texas Avenue.
Police said in the arrest report that Solis called 911 just before midnight Tuesday to report something happened to his roommate. When officers arrived, the report says, they discovered Benitez, 35, in the living room of the trailer with multiple serious injuries. "There was blood spattered, transferred, and pooled in much of the room," the report states.
According to the police report, detectives reviewed traffic camera footage and determined that no one had entered the mobile home park other than Solis around the time of the Benitez's death. Other video surveillance footage indicated Solis had changed his shoes at some point before being interviewed by detectives, the report states.
Solis' clothes tested positive for blood, and the mother of Benitez's children told detectives that he had told her Solis had threatened him in the past, according to the police report.
College Station Police Department spokesman Lt. Craig Anderson said an autopsy will be required to confirm the cause of death. Solis was the only other person who lives in the home. The two are not related, police said.
