According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 16-year-old girl told Sherman police in early September that Keith Dequan Craddock Sr., who was the coach of the private Sherman Elite Track Club, had assaulted her in July. The girl said the Sherman team was in B-CS for a state track meet that was in College Station between July 26 and July 29 and she was among a group staying at a motel on South Texas Avenue in Bryan.
The girl told authorities that the first night, two other girls were sharing a room with her, but the girls’ parents had arrived and taken them to a different hotel, leaving her to stay in the room alone. On the night of July 28, the girl said she had been in Craddock’s room watching movies until about 2:30 a.m., at which time she went back to her room, took a shower and went to bed.
The teen said she was starting to fall asleep when Craddock used what she called a “coach’s key card” to enter her room, where he sexually assaulted her, authorities said. A report notes that the next day, Craddock purchased a box of condoms at a nearby convenience store and placed them in the teen’s luggage.
On Aug. 31, the girl’s sister, with whom she shares the luggage, found the box of condoms. On Sept. 1, the girl told her sister about the assault and authorities were called, the report states.
Craddock was arrested in El Paso in September on a charge connected to missed child support. While in custody, a Texas Ranger interviewed him about the sexual assault allegation.
According to the DPS, Craddock admitted having sexual contact with the girl but told authorities she had initiated it. Craddock also told officials he did not realize she was 16, but a report notes he had coached the victim for three years and she competed in the 16-and-under bracket.
The report shows Craddock told authorities the girl had sent him explicit photos via the social media app SnapChat, which he had saved. Authorities said he voluntarily unlocked his phone and opened a hidden vault to show the Texas Ranger the pictures, and he also had numerous nude photographs and videos of different women. Officials eventually had to obtain a search warrant for stored data from SnapChat and received explicit photos and videos sent by the victim about a week before the incident, a report notes.
The victim told authorities she had sent Craddock the materials at his request.
Craddock is charged with sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. He is being held in the Brazos County Jail on $100,000 bond.
