A 21-year-old Bryan man was arrested Monday after authorities say he had sexual contact with a 14-year-old.
According to Bryan police, an officer responded to the report a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway on West 15th Street around 1 a.m. Monday. When police arrived, he approached the car and found Angel Levi Melendez, 21, having physical contact with a teen girl, a report notes. The house where the car was parked belonged to Melendez’s relative.
Authorities said the girl initially told police she was 18 but born in August 2001. The officer was suspicious because of the conflicting statements and because the girl was wearing a jacket with the logo of a local elementary school. Police drove the girl home and eventually made contact with her mother, who confirmed the girl is 14. A report notes the girl told police she had sneaked out of her house to meet Melendez and had told him she was 17.
He is charged with indecency with a child, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. He was released from the Brazos County Jail on $10,000 bond.
