Campuses in the Caldwell school district will be closed Monday due to an outbreak of influenza among students and staff members.

School district officials will use the day to clean and disinfect each room and school bus.

In a letter sent to families on Friday, Caldwell schools Superintendent Andrew Peters said the flu and flu-like illnesses had caused absences for more than 15% of the student body.

The elementary school campus had been hit hardest, he said, with more than 20% of that campus absent.

The district will not be required to make up the day in the school calendar, Peters said.

Classes are expected to resume as normal on Tuesday. Caldwell High School’s Veterans Day program, originally scheduled for Monday, has been rescheduled for Friday.
