Divers with the Department of Public Safety retrieved a firearm believed to be involved in the death of a man found in Lake Bryan on Thursday.

According to Bryan police, a shooting was reported around 7:40 p.m. Thursday on the southern shore of the lake. A man’s body was retrieved by firefighters on boats about an hour later. Police said Thursday that an autopsy would be performed.

Authorities said Friday the gunshot wound appeared to be self-inflicted and the public is not in danger.
