Marycruz DeLeón Morales filed for College Station City Council Place 4 seat on Friday afternoon.

She is the third to file for the race, following former council candidates Joe Guerra Jr. and Elizabeth Cunha. The upcoming Jan. 28 special election comes after Councilwoman Elianor Vessali announced last month that she is running for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Congressional District 17 seat, currently held by Bill Flores.

Morales is a board member of the Brazos Valley Council of Governments and graduated from the Bush School of Government and Public Service with a graduate certificate in nonprofit and philanthropy. She has lived in College Station for about four years but was born and raised in Bryan. During her time in Bryan, Morales said she held a position with the Community Development Advisory Committee.

Guerra ran for Place 4 last year but lost to Vessali in November 2018. This will be Guerra’s third time running for Place 4. Cunha ran for Place 6 but lost to Councilman Dennis Maloney in a runoff race in December 2018.

Candidate filing will close Dec. 19. Early voting will run from Jan. 13 through Jan. 24. To view the special election calendar, visit
