The murder trial for a man accused of killing a state trooper in 2017 has been moved to Brazos County.

According to the Freestone County District Attorney’s Office, the trial for Dabrett Montreal Black, 34, will be scheduled for Aug. 3, 2020, in Brazos County.

Black is charged with capital murder in the death of Texas State Trooper Damon Allen on Nov. 24, 2017. Authorities said Black shot Allen during a Thanksgiving Day traffic stop in East Texas. Black was temporarily held in the Brazos County Jail when he was arrested, before he was transferred to the Limestone County Jail, which holds Freestone County’s inmates.

Black was previously charged with aggravated assault on a public servant and evading arrest in Smith County, as well as evading arrest in Anderson County.
