National Night Out 2012

Bryan police officer Jim Berndt hands a sticker to 7-year-old Michelle Alvarez at a National Night Out neighborhood party at the Oakwood Mobile Home Park in Bryan in 2012.

Local law enforcement agencies are hosting a National Night Out kickoff Thursday that will feature games, food and a chance to interact with local first responders.

The event will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Target on Briarcrest Drive in Bryan. This family-friendly event will have games, batting cages, bounce houses and police and firefighter vehicle displays. Visitors can meet a police K-9 search and rescue dog, take a ride in a Bryan Texas Utilities bucket truck, have their child fingerprinted for protection, and learn about safety. The event is free for all to attend, and free food and drink will be provided.

National Night Out will take place in neighborhoods across the country Oct. 1
