Local businesses NerdVana and Alphagraphics are hosting a raffle benefit for the remainder of the month to assist the family of a College Station waste collection employee who was seriously injured in a collision in late September.

College Station garbage truck operator Dendy Brown was seriously hurt last month when he was hit by a car in a three-vehicle accident on Wellborn Road. Brown's friend, Jason Carranza, owner of NerdVana arcade and toy shop in College Station, decided recently that he wanted to raise funds for the family. The truck operator remains in the hospital one month after the collision, Carranza said, with his legs shattered and in danger of possibly undergoing amputation. He has undergone 12 surgeries.

Through 8 p.m. Halloween night, raffle benefit tickets will be sold at $5 for one, $15 for four tickets or $30 for 10 tickets. The raffle drawing will take place Halloween night at NerdVana, located on Longmire Drive in College Station. Prizes include an animatronic Yoda doll, 1970s Mego Superman figure, E.T. movie-themed earrings and other collectible vintage toy and pop culture prizes.

Tickets are available for purchase at NerdVana.
