A portion of Lake Bryan will be closed Friday morning after a shooting death at the lake Thursday.

According to Bryan police Sgt. Cary Beason, a shooting was reported around 7:40 p.m. on the southern shore of the lake. Firefighters on boats searched the small canal near the intersection of Sandy Point Road and lake road P4-746 Thursday evening. A man’s body was recovered around 8:30 p.m.

The man has not been publicly identified. Beason said the body will be sent for an autopsy.

A portion of the southeastern shore of the lake will be closed Friday morning as divers with the Texas Department of Public Safety search for a possible weapon. The lake’s restaurants and boat ramps should remain open while divers search, Beason said.
