A Bryan man was arrested Tuesday after authorities say he punched a female relative in the face when she wouldn’t give him $5.

According to Bryan police, around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a home in the 1600 block of Luza Street. Dispatch said a 66-year-old woman with a bloody lip had been driven to the hospital. An officer spoke with the woman and her adult daughter at CHI St. Joseph Hospital.

The woman said she had purchased groceries for 38-year-old Joshua Lamar Brown and dropped them off at his home. Brown asked the woman for $5, and when she said she did not have any money after buying groceries, he punched her once in the face, causing her lip to bleed and swell, police said.

Brown is charged with injury to an elderly person with intentional bodily injury, a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. He remains in the Brazos County Jail on $10,000 bond.
