Authorities have identified a man killed Friday in a collision in Bryan.

According to Bryan police, William Zachary Elder, 21, of Mineral Wells was killed in the crash in the 4200 block of Wellborn Road. The Texas A&M student directory lists someone by that name as a senior petroleum engineering student.

Police said around 4:15 p.m. Friday, three vehicles were involved in a collision. Elder, who was driving a Jeep, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined a Toyota traveling southbound on Wellborn slowed to make a left turn into the Westgate Shopping Center. A van driving behind the Toyota had been speeding and hit the car, which sent it into northbound traffic. The Toyota then collided with Elder’s Jeep, which then rolled. He was not wearing his seat belt, police said.

Neither the driver of the Toyota nor the van were injured.

The van driver was cited for speeding and not having a valid driver’s license.
