A Madisonville convenience store was robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning, and police are still searching for the suspect.

According to a Facebook post from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, a person entered Sonny Food Mart convenience store on North May Street around 9 a.m. Saturday and threatened the store’s employee with a handgun. Video surveillance shows the assailant — wearing dark, baggy clothing, a hood and a face covering — walking behind the cashier’s counter with the victim to obtain cash from the register. As the employee emptied the register, a shot was fired from the gun into the register. No injuries were reported.
