CLINTS WELL, Ariz. (AP) — The Latest on Arizona wildfires (all times local):

A top-tier management team has been called in to direct crews trying to suppress a human-caused fire in rugged terrain in a remote area of the Tonto National Forest.

The fire started Saturday and remained at zero percent containment Wednesday amid high temperatures and dry conditions as the terrain made it difficult for crews to directly fight the fire about 5 miles (8 kilometers) northwest of Superior.

A statement by the management team said crews burned fuel along a forest road to keep the fire from spreading east. The northern edge of the fire is within the Superstition Wilderness.

The statement said the fire hasn't forced any evacuations or threatened any communities.

A fire near Clints Well on the Mogollon Rim continues to grow and cause intermittent smoky conditions for communities in the region as crews conduct backfire operations to burn fuel.

Crews by Wednesday had established containment lines around nearly a third of the fire and planned to conduct more burnout operations along Forest Road 300 to completely ring the fire.

The fire's size was estimated at over 20 square miles (nearly 53 square kilometers) after burnout operations along State Route 87 and fire managers said additional burnouts along Forest Road 300 would increase its planned area to 27 square miles (70 square kilometers).

Areas expected to get smoke from the fire in coming days include Winslow and Payson.

Other active Arizona wildfires are near Superior and Cave Creek.
