Stephen Nielson, 81 of College Station, Texas passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019 in College Station. His Celebration of Life will be at 5:30pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at 2815 Welsh Avenue in College Station, Texas. Services in College Station are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers Bryan-College Station.
His second Celebration of Life Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, North Chapel, 347 N 200 W, Monticello Utah on Saturday November 9, 2019. A viewing will begin at 9:30 am with services to follow at 11 am. Interment will take place at the Monticello Cemetery in Monticello, Utah. Services in Monticello are in the care of San Juan Mortuary, Blanding, Utah.
Stephen was born to his parents Milton and Estella Moulton Nielson, on March 2, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1956. He married Glenice Lewis on June 4, 1957 and had eight children. He played basketball for both Snow College and BYU. He graduated from BYU earning high honors with a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked in the nuclear industry throughout most of his amazing and productive career.
He married Mary Wilson on February 10th, 1989 in the Atlanta, Georgia Temple and became a wonderful blended family. Steve and Mary were able to travel and see many wonderful places in the world. His family was the most important part of his life. Despite the miles that we lived apart, he was a constant and wonderful presence in our lives.
He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He did his darndest to pass this love along to his kids! He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings throughout his life. His most recent service was as a temple worker in the Houston Temple. His wonderful sense of humor, his brilliant beautiful mind, his undying loyalty to family and friends, and his invincible faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will be forever cherished by his family and friends who loved and appreciated him deeply during his life. Stephen was a mountain of a man, both literally and figuratively, and he will be profoundly missed!
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Tami (Max), Amber (Steve), Kelli (David), Camille, Layne (Mitzi), Roxanne (Todd), Ryan (Camie), Tyler (Jenny), Andy (Heidi), Amanda (Anthony); as well as thirty-four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his six siblings, Katherine, Keith, Howard, Christine, Mark and Paul.
He was preceded in death by his parents and also by his brothers, Tom and Bill.
Stephen's interment will take place at his childhood home in San Juan County at the Monticello Cemetery, his most beloved place on Earth.
