Elaine Mendoza, a 1987 graduate of Texas A&M University, has been elected to serve as chairman of the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.

Mendoza is the first Hispanic and second woman to serve in the role, according to the System.

Mendoza, the founder, president, and CEO of Conceptual MindWorks Inc., a San Antonio biotechnology and medical informatics company, was appointed to the Board of Regents in 2011 and reappointed in 2017.

She was elected to a two-year term as chairman, replacing former Chairman Charles W. Schwartz.

Tim Leach, a class of 1982 graduate from Midland, was elected as vice chairman. He was appointed to the board in 2017.

New regents Jay Graham, Mike Hernandez and Michael J. Plank also joined the 10-member board last week. They replaced Schwartz, Tony Buzbee and Morris Foster as regents.

Graham, of Houston, is chairman and CEO of Spur Energy Partners. Hernandez, of Fort Worth, is owner and CEO of D&M Leasing, and owner and dealer principal of Four Stars Ford, Four Stars Chevrolet Buick, Four Stars Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, and Four Stars Toyota. Plank, of Houston, is chairman and CEO of The Plank Cos. Inc. and three affiliated companies; National Property Holdings, Rail Logix and Speed Shore Corp.

Their terms are set to expire in 2025.
