Volunteers are being sought for an ombudsman program that advocates for people in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

The volunteers visit residents, investigate complaints and educate residents, families and facility staff members on the rights of people living in long-term care settings.

The ombudsman services are free and confidential.

Volunteers must be at least 18 and complete a free, 36-hour training course. No experience is required.

The program is administered by the Area Agency on Aging and covers Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson and Washington counties.
