May Bell Davis

March 4, 1922 – December 27, 2013

May Bell Davis, passed away peacefully Friday morning December 27, 2013 at the Gardens of Bellaire in Houston, Texas.

She was born March 4, 1922 in Bryan, Texas to Roland Chatam and Lela Hendrick Nunn. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, and attended Texas A&M University in College Station.

In 1965 after rearing 4 children, she and her late husband, Guy Addison Davis founded Davis Airlines, a local Commuter Airline, which they owned and operated until selling to Rio Airlines in 1977. While operating Davis airlines they initiated and sponsored The Annual Easter Seal Flights to benefit the Easter Seal Society. May Bell did volunteer work at St Joseph Hospital and volunteered at the local schools for many of her children's activities.

May Bell loved nature and relished the time she was able to spend with her family at Camp Creek Lake. She loved and cared for her gardens of beautiful flowers and she always made sure that all of the wild animals at Camp Creek Lake were fed daily, especially her treasured wild birds. In later years May Bell spent more time with her love of oil painting.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Bryan for over 50 years and a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church since moving full time to Camp Creek Lake.

Survivors include her daughter, Sissy Diane Davis of Houston, Texas; three sons and daughters-in-law, Guy Hendrick and Judy Davis of Livingston, Texas, Roland Otto (Buddy) and Connie Davis of Lompoc, California, Gary Whitfield and Donna Davis of Corinth, Texas; and three grandsons, Derek Nunn Davis of Katy, Texas, Ian Christian Davis of Dallas, Texas, and Corey Parrish Davis of Santa Monica, California.

She was preceded in death by her husband Guy Addison Davis; her parents; her brother Roland T.C. (Sonny) Nunn; her sister Hazel Nunn Rogers and her grandson Shane Erin Davis.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at The Hamptons of Post Oak, the caregivers at The Gardens of Bellaire, and caregiver/ companion, Lucy Hernandez who helped Mom so much during her last years.

A very special thank you to Hospice, for the compassionate care shown to Mom and our family during her last months.

A Memorial Service will be held in Houston sometime in February.
