December 14, 1943 - August 3, 2019

William Harris Marshall, 75, of College Station, died Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Fortress Health and Rehabilitation Center in College Station.

A celebration of his life was held at 10:30 am Friday, August 9, 2019, at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home with Larry Gurney officiating. Interment followed in the Stephenson-Harris Family Cemetery in south Grimes County. The family received friends beginning at 9:00 am prior to the service.

Harris was born December 14, 1943 in West Columbia, Texas to Winifred Lafayette (Mutt) and Ila Louise Harris (Cutie) Marshall. He grew up in Bryan and was a man of few wants. Harris was content knowing that he was so loved by his Lord, Jesus Christ, and that his family was happy and healthy. He was a beautiful baritone singer, especially of hymns, and he was the rock of his family. Harris rarely had a negative word to say about anyone, choosing instead to practice forgiveness. He often impressed onto his children and grandchildren the importance of church and a relationship with Jesus. He also participated in or started bible study groups in any assisted living facility he inhabited. As he said "Jesus is the truth, the way, and the light".

Professionally, he was a carpenter and he also assisted a great deal in running his family's cattle ranch. He also assisted those who needed help in any way he could. Harris also had the amazing hobby of being the family genealogist finding pictures of ancestors to share and ensuring everyone knew where he and his kin can from.

Harris didn't have an easy life; he suffered from mental illness in a time when it wasn't well understood. He often felt like a burden to his family and felt like he needed to be passive in decisions, whether he wanted to or not because he felt guilt for any pain or turmoil he had caused them due to his illness. He wasn't a burden at all - he was so loved and cherished. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Harris was a loving man who is survived by his children, Mark Marshall and wife Melanie and Jennifer Owens and husband Kris; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; brothers, Ronald W. Marshall and wife Joyce and Danny Lee Marshall along with their children. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother who died in infancy.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the family has requested memorials be made to Union Grove Baptist Church, 15301 FM 362, Navasota, TX 77868.
