Lynne C. Matcek, 80, passed away July 3, 2019 at her home in Caldwell. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9th at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10th also at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Caldwell Masonic Cemetery.
Lynne Camilla Carlton Matcek was born in Covington, Kentucky, July 20, 1938, and was adopted by Hugh and Marjorie Carlton from the Methodist Children's Home in Jacksonville, Florida in 1942. She graduated from Summerlin Institute (High School), Bartow, Florida in 1956, and received a BS in Education Science from Erskine College, Due West, South Carolina, in 1960. She later received a Master's degree in Education from the University of Houston. She was an elementary teacher and taught third grade at Deer Park Elementary for 28 years.
Lynne married Gable Matcek of Caldwell in 1962 and they made their home in Pasadena, Texas. Three sons were born to the union: Trevin, Thane and Tyron. Lynne, Gable (and sons) retired to Caldwell in 1989. She was an active member of the Burleson County Lions Club and served as Secretary and Treasurer for many years, receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for her lengthy membership and service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Caldwell, a member of it's congregational and handbell choir. Lynne served a secretary in the church office for several years and was very giving of her time with activities and functions of the church.
Lynne was an avid bridge player and a member of several clubs. Another hobby was her love and expertise in sewing and quilting, and she was a longtime member of the Creative Memories Quilt Guild of Caldwell. She enjoyed a special relationship with animals, cats being her favorite.
Lynne was preceded in death by her parents, Hug and Marjorie Carlton, of Bartow, Florida.
She is survived by her husband, Gable; sons, Trevin of Los Angeles, California, Thane and wife Autumn and their children, Ayla and Sayer of Round Rock, Texas, and Tyron and wife Rachel and their children, Lillian, Tyron, Jr., and Trent of Caldwell; her brother, Glenn Carlton & wife Jean of Brandon, Florida; a sister, Faith Ward of Caldwell; one brother-in-law, Clinton Matcek of College Station; and many, many nephews and nieces.
