Marina Lynn Pequegnat, 56, of La Jolla, California, died on September 18, 2015 of kidney failure. Her sudden death has left a vacant hole in the hearts of her family and friends and she will be deeply missed.
Marina was born on October 24, 1958 in Orange County California to Dr. Linda H. Pequegnat of La Jolla and Dr. Willis E. Pequegnat. She grew up in Bryan, Texas when her parents worked in the Oceanography Department at Texas A&M University. She graduated from Bryan High School in 1976. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas in Austin with a major in French. Her first job after college was in Paris, France where she worked for a Public Relations firm doing promotional work for the Grand Prix Races, during which time she traveled all over Europe to the locations where the Grand Prix Races were being held. After France, Marina moved to La Jolla, Calif. where she worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Scripps Health Administrative Offices for the past 19 years.
Marina was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Willis E. Pequegnat.
She is survived by her mother, Dr. Linda H. Pequegnat, of La Jolla, Calif.; her brother, Bill Pequegnat and wife, Paula of San Diego; former sister-in-law, Leslie Pequegnat, of San Diego. Although she had no children, she had great love for her nieces and nephews, Brie Pequegnat of Montgomery, Texas, Spencer Pequegnat who is attending the University of California Santa Cruz, Ryan Stahl working on a Master's degree at Pennsylvania State University, and Rachel Stahl attending Palomar College in San Diego. She is also survived by her half-sister, Dr. Willo Pequegnat of Bethesda, MD; half-brother, Dr. John Pequegnat of Fieldbrook, Calif.; niece, Alexandra Skowronski and Tom of Silver Spring, MD; and nephew, Geoffrey White of Murrieta, Calif. Marina is also survived by her best friend since 2nd grade, Becky Harrison Wood, of Bryan, who, although she is not a member of Marina's family, is loved as if she were.
Marina was buried at the El Camino Memorial Park Cemetery in San Diego, and a Memorial Service will be held for her at a later date.
