Lawrence "Larry" Clinton Smith, 92, of College Station, went into Jesus' waiting arms on Thursday, June 13, 2019. A private memorial service will be held for him. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.

Larry was born May 3, 1927 in Haxton, Colorado. His parents, A.B. Smith, Sr. and Lela Marie Galloway Smith soon moved to Aurora, Colorado. They stayed in Aurora with their 14 children. Larry worked at a young age shining shoes and had a paper route. He was a good looking and popular guy. He was Captain of the Football and Basketball teams. He met his first wife, Clara Rock Smith in second grade. They were together through school. In 1945, they were married and had a daughter, Linda Cheryl. He also joined the Navy because of WWII. Like others, his Mom accepted his High School Diploma. He was on his way to Japan when the war ended. His ship was rerouted to Hawaii where he spent the rest of his service.

When he returned to Aurora, he worked a couple of jobs at a gas station and Mountain Bell. Larry loved telling the story about walking in knee deep snow to get milk for Linda. He was a lineman, putting up telephone poles in the mountains; even in the middle of streams; then an installer. He went back to school at Denver University in 1951 and worked as a dispatcher at the same time. He graduated in 3 years as Summa Cum Laude. He then was promoted to Manager and lived in Broomfield, Aurora, Boulder, NYC with AT&T, and then to El Paso, TX as Vice President and General Manager. He retired in El Paso.

While in El Paso, his wife, Clara, passed away at 56 years of age. He was fortunate and found another love of his life, Marilyn Pearson Hayes. They were married 31 years. They moved to College Station, TX. They traveled and enjoyed life together. At the age of 92, he became ill and she took great loving care of him. Her son, George, and his grandson, Clint, also helped. He had 7 dogs and he dearly loved each one of them. He still laughed and joked as best he could until his last days. He will be terribly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Clara; his brothers, A.B. Smith, Jr., Maynard Smith, Pete Smith, Lucky Smith; sisters, Rose Mullins, Donna McReynolds, Barbara Stevens, Sheila Parmalee; and step-son, David Jones.

Larry is survived by his wife, Marilyn Smith; daughter, Linda (David) Pollock; step-son, George Jones; grandchildren, Kathy (Keith) Joeris, and Clint Mclure; great-grandchildren, Kailyn Mclure, Kirstie Joeris, and Klara Joeris; step-grandchildren, Leslie Reed, Carlyn and Justin Jones; brother, Dale (Phyllis) Smith; sisters, Vivian Sisco, Sharon (Bill) Suedkamp, Bonnie Hinton, Deanna (Jerry) Hanson; and other family members.
