Letters to the Editor

Thank you for supporting the Lions Christmas tree project

Thank you to everyone who supported the 2019 College Station Noon Lions Club Christmas tree sales. We sold out of trees in just 11 days, one of the quickest sales efforts in our history.

For 60 years, the Lions Club has helped light the holiday spirit for families in our community by selling them their Christmas tree. And it is more than just a fundraiser for us; it’s a community event. Our volunteers give of their time, and customers — by buying a tree — help others as the net proceeds will allow our Lions Club to support local charities and needs that arise in the coming year.

We also are grateful to the media outlets and businesses that assisted with this year’s effort.

A special thank you to Bryan Broadcasting, KBTX and The Eagle for their help in publicizing our Christmas tree sales. Another thank you goes to the Bryan-College Station Habitat for Humanity, Conlee-Garrett Moving & Storage, College Station Police Department, Bway Corporation, Redtail Rental, Joe Hobson ’88 with Brazos County Realty, Kubacak Construction, and KC Services LLC. Our Lions Club motto is “We Serve,” and these businesses certainly demonstrated that mantra.

Thank you again to all who made this year’s Christmas tree sales a wonderful success. May your spirit of Christmas be filled with love and generosity.

Thanksgiving drive a success thanks to so many people

It is with great joy that we write this letter of thanks for partnering with us.

During the holiday season, some of us have faced and are facing great challenges and need someone to lend a helping hand. That is exactly what the below mentioned names did for our “Thanksgiving Harvest Boxes” that were distributed to more than 150 needy families around the Brazos Valley. We were told that the need in the area was greater than ever before and so we called friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and local businesses to help meet that need.

Special thanks go to Agape Christian Center members, Phebe Simmons and Brazos Valley Family Promise, 211, H-E-B, Dollar General, Christ United Methodist Church Faith and Deeds Sunday School class, Bryan Radiology, Readfield Meats, Suddenlink Cable, Sam’s Club, Walmart on Briarcrest Drive, Charles and Sue’s Beauty School, Apostle Lisa St. Clair and Shekinah Glory International Ministry, Love First Christian Center, Brandon and Niesha Turner, James and LaTanya Braxton, Arthur and Velia Saenz, Henry and Wally Benavidas, Henderson and Deborah Springer, Stella Bosquez, Alton and Charity Walton, John and Jean Westbrook, Jackie Strawter, Colleen Lynch and the many volunteers.
